I have just got these headphones and the amount of treble they give out is driving me mad. I have tried experimenting with the EQ settings on the iPod (3rd gen.) but I can't find a suitable setting, the treble is just too much, too grating...
Any suggestions?
I think I have a good seal as I can hear the bass ok, there's just too much detail and sharpness to the treble.

That's the ER6i signature sound. Accurate, cold and harsh.
Don't use the EQ, as it will just give you distortion.
Bear in mind that the Gen 3 has less bass than current iPod models, so many new reviews will reflect phones that sound good on the Nano and Video, rather than on the Gen 3/4/Photo.
Send them back or sell them.
Try the warmer, more bass heavy Sennheiser CX300 (Only

got it on Latin EQ and they're sounding a lot better, I will stick with them for a bit then see...
i hated my sennheiser hd497 headphones at first but now i love them, so I'll see how these work out, the main thing I want is good isolation to save my hearing on regular long train journeys as I was finding with my EX71s I was turning the volume up pretty loud to drown out the sound of the train, hopefully these will avoid that situation.

don't use the EQ and buy yourself an amp

For the train, maybe what you need are active noise cancelling phones?

Did you try the foam tips. Those give me a completely different sound than the flanges. The harsh sound I was getting with the triflanges went away with the foams. The treble is now very balanced with the rest of the frequency range.
