I just started noticing this problem. I select a song to play, and the iPod will skip that song, perhaps two or three songs, and play the fourth song. When that song finishes, the iPod will skip a few more songs. There's no consistency to how may songs the iPod skips or when this problem happens. It doesn't matter whether or not I'm in shuffle mode. It doesn't matter if the song was ripped from another cd or if the song was purchased via iTunes. I have app. 8 hours of music in one playlist; yet, according to the screen on the iPod I'll go through about 1/4 of the list in less than one hour. I generally go through app. 16-20 songs in an hour, not 50-60 songs in an hour! It's a 20 gig iPod, with app. 16 gig of space available.
