hi my ety 6i's have broken and whilst they are getting repaired i need to get some more phones due to the stock ones killing my ears.
i was looking in this months stuff mag (uk gadget mag) and they recommened the px100, but im a little concerned with my music being too loud so that others can here it too.
so then that moves me on to ot the closed px200.
now can anyone tell me if any of these phones are any good?

I'm not sure about the 100s but I have the 200s and they are literally the best I've experienced. As for the loudness, I can turn it up twice as much and nobody will be the wiser. lol, at least I think so because nobody has said anything yet.

i am very concerned with the volume though, but they are going really cheao on ebay so i think the 100's might be too good to miss out on. i have no idea how long my ety 6i will take to get repair, as im in the uk and i have to send them back to the US. it might take 1 week or 6 for all i know.

I have a feeling that's the way it is with buds... people say the same thing about EX71s... I absolutely hated them and I don't see any reason anyone would used them or buy them. :Shrugs:

otherside, its very much a personal thing, after all everyones ears are different. the best thing you can do (like me) is google the headphone or buds and type in reviews after them.
you will then get loads of free impartial reviews and if the majority like them then you know you are on to a safe bet.
like tonight ive just bought some px 100's due to loads of sites saying that for the price they are just awesome.
i got hold of some on ebay for £22 inc postage :)

yeah, but it's just strange that the reviews are suck stark contrasts between terrible and awesome.
i don't want to spend £60 and be hugely dissappointed.

I have had my PX200s for a few months now and, apart from sounding a bit muddy towards the bottom of the treble range, I'm thoroughly satisfied with them. They produce strong vocals, beautifully detailed strings, and the bass is tight and punchy if you have the earcups well positioned.
They are light and comfortable to wear, and the construction quality appears to be excellent, particularly when you look closely at the cable entry points. The noise isolation isn't as good as IEMs, but it's good enough for use on the street or on public transport.
Most people who've used the PX100 and the PX200 appear to believe that the former offers much better sound quality but, if you need closed headphones, then the PX200s won't disappoint.

In headphone dot cm, they say that px100's sound better than 200's and they even cost less money, believe they are experts in the matter they make many tests to the products they sell. I bought 100's, they are the best of two worlds: pure hifi and portability in a single pack.

Umm...one of the things I'm concerned about with the PX100 is that they produce too much "outside music",so like...anyone can clearly hear what I'm listening to ?
This would be annoying, really,I've seen a guy in the subway just the other day with some headphones (well, not SH) and you could hear his music all over,in every compartment. It was horrible.
What about the SH's? Don't the PX200 do better here?

I bought the PX 200s about 12 months ago and loved them. However they were a bit of a halfway house for me between buds and cans. Eventually I bought some HD555 for home use and some Shure E2 for out and about, and that suits me better.
I keep my PX 200s at work.

Of course. Open headphones (i.e. the PX100) produce better sound quality at a lower price, but closed headphones (i.e. the PX200) are offered as an alternative for people who are willing to sacrifice some sound quality in order to block out some ambient noise, or to avoid disturbing others around them.
Whether to get the open or closed headphones is an important decision, so you need to think carefully about what sort of environment you're going to be using them in.

How do you lose sound quality with closed cans?? That doesn't make sense because you have the ambient noise interfering with the sounds coming from the cans.

I have tried both of them and I have found a huge difference in soung, I tested them with songs I know very well, px100's much much better. They make a little noise outside, but hey, you are listening your songs at a great sound quality

I dont see how anyone could possibly think that the 100s are "much better" than the 200s. Some people have posted hat open phones are better than closed for sound quality. Huh?
I tried both of these Sennheisers extensively and they sound pretty much the same. I think anyone who is saying otherwise either did not try both or didn't try both at the same time, under the same conditions.
I chose the 200s simply because they are more isolated from outside noise and vice versa. BOTH sets sound very, very nice.
And the people who are complaining about a lack of bass with either are people who must prefer exagerrated, boomy, inaccurate bass. When the source material is recorded well, both of these phones have tight, deep bass.

In a quiet environment, open cans theoretically will sound better because of the nature of the open design. In a noisy environment, closed cans will give you a better listening experience for the reasons that you state. As I mentioned in my previous post, the choice between the two depends on the type of environment in which you intend to use them.
I won't get into the argument about whether the PX100s sound better than the PX200s but, suffice to say, the sound quality of the PX200s is very pleasing.
