I?m trying to work out how to best install my iPod in my car. I have a Sony head unit with no aux in but with a separate cd changer. In case people don?t realise, you can simply remove the 2 phono cables (red and white audio leads) from the cd changer and with a little plug adaptor (only a few coppers from Maplin or the like) plug it in to the headphone socket on the iPod. Simply select CD on your head unit and you can listen to your iPod. The crucial thing is you must leave the bus (control) cable connected to the CD changer, otherwise it won?t work.

My question is: Is there any way of fooling the head unit into thinking there is a cd changer there? This way, I?d be able to sell my cd changer to fund the purchase of more iPod accessories!

I am pretty sure you would have to have the DIN cable plugged into something Sony. Without the DIN your CD player wont recognize anything cd changer wise.

this is the exact problem i face, i also need something to trick my sony headunit into thinking there is a changer attached, otherwise it willnot open the imput chanel or give me the option on the display.

I never resolved it - in the end I coughed up for the Dension ICE link!

I had the same problem with my sony head unit and i bought a sony xa-300 auxilliary input adapter (about 60 bucks on ebay). it plugged right in to the back of my head unit, and i was able to use the cd changer and an audio input at the same time.
