View Full Version : Did your iPod decide you didn't have a big enough music collection?

I had 4 GB of music before I got my iPod.
I now have almost 12 GB.
I honestly thought I wouldn't want more music than 4 GB, but so it ends up, I can't get enough!
Did anyone else walk into their relationship thinking that?
I know that a 6 GB increase in music in 4 months is crazy, especially considering that I have had that same 4 GB since I was 13.

My collection of music was defaintly smaller when I first got my nano. Now it's about 200 songs larger. When I had cd's my friends would always "borrow" my cd's and never return them. Now since my music is on my computer and nano now one can "borrow" my music. Thus leading to me actually having a larger collection of music :) I love digital music so freakin music.

My music collection demands a bigger iPod, as I continue the slow process of ripping it all. I quickly realized a shuffle was insufficient, but now I'm probably halfway through my collection and past the capacity of my 20GB ipod.

My internet connection decides that I my music collection is too small. 30 seconds to download a song, yessir.
But yeah my collection have grown, from 800 songs to 3000 in the 2½ years I've owned an iPod.

When I got my 3G 15GB iPod I thought, How will I ever fill this thing? Now, I know when the 3G gives up the ghost I'll buy the largest capacity iPod apple makes at that time.

I too went from 6GB of music, to ripping all the CDs I hadn't ripped and downloading a bunch more, now I'm up to 20gigs...Before my iPod I ocassionaly listened to music on my computer using Winamp, and now that I have one and use iTunes, I listen to music every where I go.

I bought a 4GB iPod Mini thinking it'd be enough. Now I have around 18ish GB.
When the next gen iPod comes out, I want a 80GB for all my videos and music to fit.

Yes, before my iPod, I say started out at 20 songs or so. Two albums from my favorite band, and I was satisified. I barely even used iTunes and had no idea to work it. That was in November, now, I have a library of 21 GB, including Videos, Podcasts, and Music. My music collection is about to hit 1,000 songs.

Yeah... it's a fair assessment for me. My problem is I have so much of it that I don't know what the hell I have and don't have anymore.

I was going to get the 1G Nano, and then decided I would get the 2G thinking it would be plenty. Now I wish I would have gotten the 4G.

I was actually right about the size ipod that I need. I went ahead and bought the 20 gig as my first ipod and I am so glad that I did. I am in the process of reripping all of the music in my house. I am up to 1752 songs. I am sure if music downloading was legal I would have about 200 gigs of music, but it isn't and I dont so w/e. Now that I think about it I can't really think of any music that I would want from peer to peer anyway except for a couple of underground bands. I will eventully have to buy a 100 gig when it comes out. Hopefully the battery power is 24 hours on those... oh btw I own a 4g 20 gig ipod.

Yeah it is, but we all do it. I don't find it near as bad as putting it up on a p2p network. If I give an album to my friend to listen to I think of it like giving her a book that I enjoyed as she may enjoy it too.

Definitely. When I first got my iPod, I had roughly 450 songs. That was December 2004. Now it's April 2006, and I have 2292 songs/podcasts/videos. This also let me explore different genres of music and different styles. It was a musical epiphany! A revelation!

Acquiring an ipod changes everything....One's collection(of whatever) seem to expand exponentially thereafter and you seem to acquire new tastes for things that can you can do on the go (version restricted).
Of course, my main reason (for getting an ipod) was to free myself from the tether of the CD pouch/carrier and have all my digital music and other files in a small neat package and everything else is a bonus.
I got the highest capacity I could afford at the time (3g 40gigs) which was before decent and good priced, high capacity flash drives for "other" kinds files.
I concede that my relationship with multimedia definitely morphed into something new...

Another party, broke-by-ipod... :)
We had quite a large cd collection, but the first ipod (a 4G 30GB) was meant to just be the tote-around for our current interest in world music. *BBbbbzzzzzttt!!* As soon as we started to do that, ALL of the CDs (700+) had to be ripped, going back, er, a long time in years, genres and styles.
Of course, with the whole library ripped, the music was too large for a 30GB, so we had to buy a 60. Then the 5G came out, and The Man wanted a 30GB video of his own... which lead to even more purchases of new cds, and a permanent bill with iTunes.
We buy a lot of music again, still in physical form or in digital format, and are closing in rapidly on the 10,000 track milestone.
P.S. I have to put the caveat in here, that if XM satellite radio hadn't yanked both their african and world music stations off the satellite, I might never have moved to the iPod. A continuous, "free" (subscription) source of my favorite genres, in my car, in my house and online was a marvelous way to be introduced to new music. I'm struggling right now to try to replicate my favorite bits of their playlists for both stations. [i]The hosebags.
well, i started burning cds, had around 15 cds. got an ipod, and am up to 3600+ songs. and im freinds with the public library, too :p

Before I got my iPod, I had about 10GB of songs and a 128mb flash player.
I only got my 3G 20GB iPod a few months ago, but now I have 3370 songs (17.64GB) and could really do with a new one. My music collection is increasing fast! My next iPod is going to be at least 60GB, but being a student with no job, I can't afford one :(
