I think it's very cool and would have got it if we could have stood the wait to order it and have it delivered, rather than buying at a store. We had decided to get one, and saved a little $$ buying an opened unit (buyers remorse) at a local shop.

However, I'm real tempted to get a second iPod (so my wife has hers and I have mine) and I would definitely get it engraved if I can think of something clever to put on it.

Don't have it for the same reason as altcountryman, I didn't want to wait for it to be shipped, once I decided to lay out the cash for the pod I wanted some instant gratification!

I bought mine engraved, because it was free....though I did post asking if I should get it engraved considering it was my intention to put it into a case right away. :confused:

Well, I didn't get the case until a few days after it had arrived....by then I had already scratched the back of it :mad:

Got an obscure response...which I took as a sign to go for it. :D

I got mine engraved, but it hasn't arrived yet. It's just gonna have my name on it. I think that I will get an exo2 clear white case. I don't wanna scratch mine... but I will anyways... too bad.

Mine is engraved with my name (because it was free). "Zach Hale". Very original.

Name and phone number so if someone stole it they might have the decency to call me up and tell me i need a new mp3 player. Maybe people would be less inclined to steal something with a name on it instead of a brand new inconspicuous ipod that they can easily make their own. I wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't free.

Yep, that's a big part of the reason I got it. Yeah, I know, it'll be harder to sell, but who cares. I didn't put my phone number on it because I'm moving out in a year, but it's still got my name.

I got when it was free. After I placed my order for a 20gig, I realized that the engraving was free (I guess apple didnt want to over advertise it). I called up apple phone support, and got my order changed with the engraving I wanted. Customer service reps are always trained to take things VERY literally, so I had the guy repeat both lines back to me (twice). Needless to say, I only got 1 line, my birthday, out of two. It seems useless without the name, so I wish now I hadn't opted for the engraving at all, in case I want to sell it. According to the warranty info "apple is not responsible for any engraving errors." I guess things don't always work out perfectly.

edit- interestingly enough, I just looked back at the warranty info, and the engraving disclaimer isn't there anymore. Could this be to prevent complaints from the Valentine's engraving thing?

I got my iPod laser etched with some cool graphics. My iPod wont be stolen because it's etched with graphics that I drew! I love it!
I also got my Mac etched, too. The designers at Tech Tattoo in King of Prussia PA were great!
