I posted 300...it is somewhere in around that number though. Roughly 1400 legally ripped songs and 300 downloaded from the net. The majority of that 300 are live and acoustic versions not available on CD though. Which some people view as stealing...I view it as the music industry once again being inept. If artists were to have that live stuff on CDs I'd buy them.

from a CD that was of limited distribution.....gave up trying to buy the CD for [upto] $100 on eBay (haven't seen anybody offer it recently).
I did get the second CD, so I ripped the two tracks I wanted from that CD.....so I paid $50 for each song, that time....
I more recently won an auction for a copy of Origin.....:D

I dont think I have ever steeled music. I imagine it would be much harder than bronzing, and I dont enjoy that either.
Too hard to listen to music through a metal coating.
99 cents for a song isn't bad, but it's much easier to just search for the song on WinMX or whatever and get it right away, then to get it off the iTunes store. I don't have an iPod yet, but I'm going to get one, and most of the mp3's on there will be "illegally" taken.
I do not have a fast Internet connection. Even if I wanted to steal music, it would be virtually impossible. Really, I would rather buy it and the iTunes store is great because I can buy just what I want.

I have somewhere between 600 and 1000 "illegal" songs, although I haven't taken the time to sort through my collection and count out those i've bought and ripped and compare it to the number i've downloaded. I keep with the legal way now, since iTMS is out on Windows, and now I work at a store that sells music so I get a discount on CDs. I'm slowly but surely making all those songs I downloaded legal by either buying the CD or buying them off iTunes.

I have about 50+. If I like more than 1or 2 of the artists songs, I usually buy the CD. Remember, If you own the cassette or vinyl version, it isnt illegal to download a copy of the song ;)

P2P is the greatest thing in the world! I tunes store is a total joke... why pay .99 for a song when you don't have to. Everyone is so worried about the download police coming to your house. Since i tunes music store everyone who suddenly has itunes is making everyone else who downloads on kazaa or lime wire sound like a common criminal. The truth is many people are downloading songs they never would pay for in a million years. The RIAA also uses download statistics from kazaa for market research. But if paying a buck per song or wait 13 per album (there's a deal when they are 5 on half.com) helps you sleep at night that's good for you.

I agree with u a 100%. p2p is the best thing in the world. I see no point in paying a doller for one song. By the way silverbullet how many illegal songs have you downloaded and what do you use?
I believe that integrity is important. I would rather not steal music.

Hey, Isnt recording a song legal? If I can record the same song off of a internet radio station, then I should be able to D/L it.

so wait it if i downloaded music of like like limewire but im not sharing any of my music does that mean im not doing anything illegal?
Silverbullet

they don't bust anyne if they don't share but your sill technically downloading "illegal" music, but you're in luck b/c they don't go after anyone w/less than 2000 songs (or at least not yet so if you wind up in court don't blame me). It's highly unlikely that those rich #######s have the money to sue ever little player in downlading music.

i got two more things to say.
#1... is this the only poll in the entire group of poles on this web site that has any relovence?
#2 ... Yo: oleg and flood i think we need to start up a music server in international waters so that we can keep p2p alive. I don't know how much longer it's going to be that we can use it without worries.
check out boycottRIAA.com if you need more facts about the harsh reality

Well given how many people accept the dominant paradigm (i.e. that file sharing = stealing), I am dismayed at how many people by corporate propaganda. There was a time when broadcasting music over the airwaves was illegal, as well as taping that music on a cassette. However, people stood up & protested (via the legal system & fair use legisltation). It was the music industry that convinced everyone to switch to using digital means to store & broadcast music (and got everyone to buy music they already own a second time, & for more $$$), so they have only themselves to blame for the unintentional consequences of their own actions....
I already spend a significant amount of $$ on cd's, most of the mp3's i download are not available for sale anyway, or i already own on vinyl & don't feel like going through the hassle of recording myself. No sympathy for the record industry.
...and as for the number..... close to 1,000.

To add to my rant. I can buy a used CD from a store for $8 - $10, rip it, sell it back to a used cd store ($5 - $7) & make an exact duplicate of the CD for $2 - $3
& while the sound duplication of mp3 files is much better than cassette-recorded copies of albums, mp3's are not identical duplicates, information is still lost in the process (which can't be recovered when converting back to .aiff/wav).....so the record industry is hard-pressed to make the argument if someone were to stand up & fight them....

i think apple realized that people like use were feuling the sales of the ipod (not to mention all other mp3 players) maybe that's why they launched Itunes store. It was right around the same time as the RIAA started sueing kids for downloading music.

edit:
Kazaa blows for music now - they always screech out around 10-15 second mark, so I use MIRC. http://mirc.com

CD's are a Rip off. How much is one to buy blank? about 50pence then stick 99c (arround 40p) a song on it as thats how much iTunes sell a song for so at this Price scheme an Album should cost about ?4.80 for a 12 Song album + 50P for the price of the CD. So how come Albums cost over Double this in a store. They have ripped us off so why should we not get our own back and download for free? All I can say is Record companies, you have had it your way, we are getting our way now, up yours :)

Takes longer for me to rip one CD then to download 10 so why bother?
Havent bought a cd in ages - if I exclude Enigma and the likes wich really benefit lots of a CD quality sound on certain systems.
Aint gonna pay over 20 USD for a focking CD ( thats what they cost in my country )...
The record industry making money on CDs and LPs is a fairly new thing if u look at human history anyways... If music has survived millenia it certainly will survive the plunge in power of the record labels. Nobody said it would last...

I would recomend anyone who wants to download music to look into USNET Newsgroups, but you really need high speed acess. Limewire and Kaza are good for quick single song downloads, but not any bulk (or multiple album) stuff. I d/l over 5 Gigs of Music I wanted this weekend. Sure it took me a day or two and I had to wade through a ton of crap, but 55+ albums (yes 55+, and some were 2 and 3 Disc sets) that I wanted made it worth it (IMHO). You also have to go in there with an open mind and see what you find, but lots of folks post a lot of GOOD stuff in there. Took me a few hours to get all the ID3 tags squared away, but still, it was worth it.
The number in my sig is a bit low in fact...
