Dish DVR & vpod

Anyone know how/if I can export tv programs from my DVR to my iPod? I don't have a DVD recorder, but I can get one. (Recommendations?) Bear in mind that 1) I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm willing to try; and 2) I have a Dish Network DVR, so whatever recorder is recommended needs to be compatible (all the plugs on the back) w/that.

I would love to be able to do this also, but all I have found involves taking the DVR apart, would like to hear of an easier way.
