i just read the "ipod losing my bookmark" thread and this is a different issue.

i have several audiobooks on my ipod that i imported from books on cd/tape. when it's done like this, there are many "tracks" that the book is divided into. each one is generally 15 minutes or so. this is great b/c it's easy to know where i am in a book and can leave it and come back as i wish.

with audible, however, the entire book is in one track. if i want to listen to some of a book, and then listen to music, is there any way that the ipod will remember where i was in the book? if not, isn't this a great disservice?

i downloaded from audible "don't know much about history" which is a 25 hour book divided into three "tracks." am i really going to have to listen to around 10 hours straight before i can listen to anything else on my pod?

If you are using iTunes (windows or mac) it will save your place. You can listen to a book for a while and then switch to something else. When you start the book again, it will remember where you stopped.


This is also the case if your using ephpod for windows.

If you do need to fast forward, the best way is to "scrub". Just push pause and then the middle select button. This will allow you to quickly move through the audio book.

i'm a bit confused by your answer.

does it only save your place when you listen within itunes? so on my ipod, my place will not be saved?

i will keep the scrub method in mind, however.

NO, it will save your place on your iPod and well as in iTunes.

It might help if you read the Audible for iPod User's Guide posted at the top of this forum. I provide comments on the difference between audiobooks ripped from CD in MP3 format vs the Audible format. I think after you experience it, you will agree that the Audible format is more convenient than standard MP3 files. Audible files will remember your last played postiion. MP3 files will revert to the beginning of the track every time you restart a track.
