Hi all

I'm from the UK and have recently purchased a 40GB iPod which I will be using with Windows XP.

Basically, I wanted to know, I've read that deleting a song from your computer will also deleted that song from the iPod, the next time you sync the iPod.

However, I've also read that its possible to override this by manual syncing? Is this correct?

Very grateful for any advice - basically my hard drive is small at the moment and I need to know whether or not its OK to delete songs before I go ahead and do so!

Thanks

Hey Seymourtitty:

It is easy to over-ride this by manual syncing - that is correct. Doing this depends which proggie you are running.

Assuming you are running iTunes and your iPod is connected, click the options icon on the bottom right, then enable MANUAL SYNCING.

Whichever program you have should allow you easily to alter the syncing options - try the help file should you have any problems ;)

I too have a harddrive similar in size to my iPod, so I back up most mp3s on cd (whichever I don't own the actual CD of). There have been the odd occasion that people have lost their music collection due to problems :/ So be careful with this and if possible back up on CD! :)

You have 2 choices, keep the playlist on your PC in sync with the iPod (or the other way around, depends on how you look at it) or manually manage the iPod.

The sync approach is nice if you have a small library, will be keeping everything on your PC as well as your iPod and you want the iPod to match what your PC library looks like.

The manual approach lets you keep the music only on your iPod once its transferred there. Warning though: There is no official, Apple sanctioned way to move music from your iPod to your PC (or Mac.) There are numerous 3rd party freeware and shareware solutions that allow you to do this though.
