View Full Version : Nano Voltage?

I have a black 1gb nano, and I just picked up a Griffin Itrip with the cradle that the nano sits in. It has a mini-USB port at the bottom for charging and says it can be used with the Griffin Powerjolt. I don't want to buy another accessory so soon, and I have an OEM Motorola Razr mini-usb (SYN0847A) car charger.

Question: is it safe for me to use it with the Nano + iTrip for charging? I'm not sure about the voltage on the Motorola charger, it has no writing on the package. But I think I read somewhere that most things that charge through usb have a 4.75-5.45v threshold?

Do me a favor, go to the Motorola site and find out exactly about the voltage and amperage out.

If 5v and at least 500mA, give it a try.

I've been trying to find out what the voltage/amperage is for the longest time but it just doesnt seem to be out there! Its not even on the Motorola official website for the charger!

I've read from some other forums that they were able to use it to charge their USB devices. What worries me is that it is called the Motorola High Performance Car Charger (SYN0847A), which might mean it outputs more than the average amps/volts? In which case my nano would be fried :S

I'm wondering the same thing about using the razr charger to charge a Nano with the iTrip. I haven't found anything on the car charger, but my AC charger for the RAZR outputs 5V at 550mA. Would this be in the safe range for the nano?

I've used both my RAZR and Blackberry chargers to charge my iPod through the Belkin TuneTalk and haven't had any issues.

Generally as long as it's a standard USB charger you should be okay, but of course the "high-performance" ones might put out a little bit more voltage, so I would be careful with those.
