Hi All
New to this forum but hope one of you may be able to assist as there's not much technical support here in New Zealand.

I may have encountered a compatability problem between the 5th generation ipods and the Alpine KCA-420i ipod adapter and/or the head units. Have just installed an Alpine CDA-9855 and KCA-420i into my car and a CDA-9851 and KCA-420i into my wifes car so we can run our ipod video 30GB 5th genration ipods through them.

All is working absolutely fine EXCEPT in song search mode on both stereos it doesn't matter how many songs are in the playlist selected it will only let me search on the first 255. Really obvious on the CDA-9855 as the digital display shows the first song as 1/255 on every single playlist, even the one with over 2,500 songs in it!

It will still let me play songs after track 255 by selecting track 255 and then using the next song button and will also play them when using the mix all function.

Would one of you with an alpine CDA-9855 of CDA-9851 and an Apline KCA-420i AND a fifth generation ipod with video (pref a 30GB - using software version 1.1) with more than 255 songs please try entering the song search mode and see if you can select any track higher than number 255. On the CDA-9855 it will be obvious from the display if you can but on the CDA-9851 you may have to look on your playlist on itunes to see what tracks are numbered after 255 to see if you can search for them.

Or, have any of you heard of this problem and the solution? Thanks in anticipation and best wishes from New Zealand. Paul

This is a common issue. It's apparently a limitation of the AiNet bus. The 2006 iPod Full-Speed models don't use AiNet for the iPod connection, so the limitation is apparently gone in those models.
