Read my first post. After letting the ipod say "do not disconnect" for over an hour with nothing happening in the initial setup process, I unpluged it.

I sat on Apple telephone hold (for a windows computer for over an hour) It then said "please hold while we connect you" I held and then heard a dialtone. IT HUNG UP ON ME! Does anyone else get the idea that Apple doesn't give a sh_t about us Windows users? I digress.

I called again and the hold time was much shorter, but with the same disconnect results. I called back a third time and was going to lie and say I had a Mac just to get a live person so I could yell at someone. However, this time they were closed. CLOSED? WHO CLOSES? Apparently Apple closes their tech support dept. at 6pm PST.

I decided on my own that maybe I should install the CD that came with my unit before updating to 2.1. I did so and everything seemed to be going swimmingly. I avoided Musicmatch and that other crap they want to put on your computer, but still got the 2.0.1 version that came with my unit.

Now when I went to Update, the USB doesn't recognize my device! This is the worst product in the world. I want to send it back soooooooo bad. However, I've already invested in all these #### accesories and how much of a pain would it be to return all this sh_t!!!!

Someone please help or tell me where to turn.

When things go bad, they just go bad don't they? Funnily enough thats why I bought my iPod, but thats another story.

It is possible that you have a dud, or your computer is just not being good to the iPod. It should be automatically recognized, and if it isn't then your choices are limited. Try getting a replacement, and if that doesn't work then start looking at other alternatives.

OK, take a deep breath and sit back for a second. While it is possible you have a dud, it's not likely.

Can you give us some more info? What does the iPod say when you connect it? Have you tried doing a a reset (menu + pause/play until the Apple logo comes up)?

Give us some more info and we'll try to help.

My Ipod is officially FRIED. It just sits there not with nothing on the screen but that d_mn apple with a bite out of it. Nothing. None of the buttons work. The USB won't recognize it. Not even it's own Mother would recognize it.

WHAT A ### PIECE OF ##### !!!!

THE FCC SHOULD MAKE A RULE. AS LONG AS YOUR STORES ARE OPEN (PHYSICAL OR ONLINE) YOUR SUPPORT CENTERS MUST BE OPEN. CLOSE YOUR TECH SUPPORT AT 6PM. WHAT A LOAD OF HOOEY! YOU'RE STILL SELLING THE CR_P! SUPPORT IT!

MY BLOOD PRESSURE WENT DOWN A LITTLE WHEN I CALLED THE APPLE STORE AND VENTED TO THE NICE ORDER TAKER LADY. I'M SURE I MADE HER NIGHT. OH WELL, BETTER HER TO ENDURE MY WRATH THAN MY WIFE. My poor kids. I didn't even get to tuck them in because of this sh_t!

I BET ALL THOSE APPLE TECH SUPPORT GUYS GET TO TUCK THEIR KIDS IN! ARRGH! STEVE JOBS, YOU JOBBED ME ON THIS ONE!

I was finally able to reset it. Now someone tell me how to get songs on to it. I still don't know if it has been properly formatted in 2.0.1?

I downloaded 2.1 too.

I opened 2.0.1 and it said to connect my ipod. I did so with the 2.0 USB cable. It said USB device not recognized. And now I have that Sammy Hagar I Can't drive 55 circle with the line through it (the neg sign) and "Do Not Disconnect" on my ipod screen.

Would you STOP posting all over the place in new threads!

It does nothing to help solve your problem in that folks don't see what you've done to get where you are and aside from being against the forum guidelines it's just rude.

I've deleted all your other threads so lets keep it here OK? These are very active boards.

As you've read "Do Not Disconnect" is what is supposed to be on the iPod whenever it's connected to the computer. It's a good thing.

Does the iPod show as a drive in My Computer? If so, right click and select properties. What does it say is the File System? HFS+ or FAT32.

If it says HFS+ it's still a MiPod and needs to be formatted, normally the setup process will format it for you. Have you run the setup disk? You can cancel out of the MMJB setup process when you get to.

Or, just format the iPod (select "Quick Format") and then run the Updater (2.1 or 2.0.1--doesn't matter-click Restore)
