Few newbie questions

Been scanning through the forum over the last couple of days - great site. I just needed to ask these "double check" questions.

When using the iPod as a Hard Drive is there a limit to the size of the file/folder I wish to copy and paste onto it?
For example, could I throw a 700mb CD image over onto the iPod without fuss? and if so, how long (approx) will the transfer take?
I'm using Windows XP and the iPod is connected via my SoundBlaster Audigy's Firewire port.

My iPod is formatted for Windows use, is there absolutley no way my iPod can be used on a Mac? If not, is it possible for future firmware to enable a way around this?

Hello hoolak!!

Only limit to file transfers is free disk space on the iPod.

I reecently transferred 124 new songs (@ 740MB overall) into a folder using iPod as an external drive. Transfer using firewire took ~2 minutes. Blazingly fast!!

I unloaded files at work onto laptop using USB1.1...took >20mins...still bearable...

It can be used on mac. Although, I wouldn't recommend trying to do so while still using it with a PC.

Mac's can read FAT32 drives (the format of WiPods). PCs can read HFS+ drives though (the format of MiPods).

Just make sure if you connect your iPod to a Mac that when iTunes comes up you disable auto-sync

So before connecting up my Win iPod to a Mac, I should open the Mac iTunes and disable auto-sync (which I'm guessing would overwrite my iPod drive with the Library on the Mac if not disabled)?

If I get another computer and want to transfer all the songs from my old computer to the new one, can I do that with the iPod? (all of the music I have is ripped from actual CD's, no iTunes songs present.) If I cant do that with the iPod, what is the best way to get the new computer to mirror the old one? Use ephpod?

Yeah, you can do that with the iPod. Just connect it to one computer, copy the files to it using My Computer/Explorer, then connect to the new computer and copy them off of the iPod. Simple as that.

Actually hoolak you can't do that. The iPod options window isn't accessible w/o an iPod being connected. A bit of a connundrum that. :D

Fear not, iTunes will take care of you. When you connect the iPod, a pop up message should come up to the effect that "Hey, this iPod hasn't been connected to this computer before...Do you want iTunes to automatically Update this iPod?". Say NO to this by unchecking the box (it's checked by default I believe).

That should set you straight.
