Hi all,
I am a new user - iPod 30G
Two questions:
How best to organise songs into playlists? - By album if it is a whole album? And also into playlist by other criteria (eg. showtunes, or 60's rock or whatever)
Secondly - can you set the iPod to randomly play from all playlists - to get a random play from your entire collection. Or must you put everything into one playlist and then select shuffle for that playlist?

Playlists are dependent on the program you use to manage your tunes. If you are using Itunes, smartlists are wonderful, or you can create your own manual playlists.
To play all your songs randomly, in settings (On your ipod), turn the shuffle to on, then go into browse--browse to songs--all your songs will be included, and you're set.

Shuffle has 2 options - songs and albums. I though that Shuffle albums would play an entire album and then randomly select another playlist when the first is complete, and Shuffle songs would shuffle only within a playlist and not between playlists.
Is this not correct?

I don't have my albums in playlists, I instead get them from the browse menu, much easier. For playlist's, I have various things such as most player, never played, highest rated. For oldies and stuff, I just have that in the genre, and then I browse to that.

Remember that the Shuffle feature is relative to what you've selected to play.
I you've selected a Playlist and have Shuffle>Songs on, it will shuffle from the songs on that Playlist. If you Select a Playlist and have Shuffle>Albums on, I don't think it would do anything.
If you are use Browse and you Browse to an artist and select all the songs for that Artist it will shuffle from w/in that list of songs (if you have shuffle>songs on). If you had shuffle>albums on it would shuffle from w/in that Artist's albums.
Make sense? The functionality is contingent upon what tunes you've selected to play....
