hey all,

Does anyone know of any place i can get some custom moulds for E2's in and around london?
i love the sound that the foam ones give, but dammit they are about as durable as a paper cup

Ok, you can get them from Westone. But I wouldn't recommend them--I've had them for about a week, and after going back and forth between the molds and the foamies, I'd recommend using the foamies (Sorry Dunbar; I was more enthusiastic when I first got them, but with a direct comparison, the earmolds have some definite flaws).

The bass is fantastic with the earmolds, but the tradeoff is the clarity of the highs, and you almost completely lose the mids altogether. By breaking the seal, I can get the clarity and mids back, but then the bass is gone. With full compression, the sound is awesome--but I can't obviously push them in and hold them--my arms get too tired...The comfort is outstanding, once you get used to having something an inch from your temporal lobes...Initially they are a bit difficult to insert, but after a few go arounds, they are actually easier to put in than the foamies.

I will say though that custom earmolds are probably the most subjective component of a listening device component--just a tweak here and there, and the sound changes considerably, and a different fit is going to have dramatic effects on the sound profile. So my perception may be completely different than someone elses, when you take into account anatomic differences in ear canals...

its a pity that Shure dont realise there is this problem.
without the seal, they suck and the foamies are way to flimsy to be used for portable devices

im gonna do the sony ex71 mod and use the sleeves from them on my e2's

Yep, I agree with you on that...We've asked them to make triple flanged sleeves, which (I think) will fix the issue, and according to Sugarfried they're at least considering it....
