sad iPod and frozen battery symbol solution

Well tonight my iPod crashed...had it plugged into the dock and the music stopped playing. I reset it and got the sad face. Tried a bunch of things, including reset, forcing it into disk mode, restore...nothing worked. Tried calling tech support and they only told me to send it back to them.

Then I remembered reading a thread a while back on the same thing...sad iPod, frozen battery symbol. Jackd suggested resetting the iPod and as it reset, shake it...he suggested this freed up the frozen hard drive. I figured that I might as well try it out and bang, it worked.

Did a search and this seems to be a reoccuring problem and the only solution seemed to be to send it back to Apple.

Yeah, but how long before it happens again?

So when exactly are you supposed to "shake it". The restore process is quite lengthy.

Don't know how long before it happens again...I used it for a couple of hours last night and have been listening to it for a three hours so far this morning.

As for when in the restore process you do this...I said when you reset it, not restore. Reset only takes seconds :)
