Wow.
That about sums up my opinion of the new 40 gig ipod I purchased it from CompUSA with the TAP program.
I had narrowed my decision down to a 60 gig ZEN and the 20/40 gig iPod... obviouslly I went with the ipod and can not be happier.
The thing works, and it works with style, incredibly ergonomics, and with such amazing reliability. It has become fully integrated into my lifestyle... I'm finding im using it whenever im not talking to someone, hah:
1. walking to class
2. at the gym
3. brushing my teeth...
4. grocery shopping.....
5. even just sitting around
everywhere...
and it works, everywhere... while I'm an avid runner, I've chosen not to use it while running, which I think it a good idea, I still have my RCA Lyra with 384 megs to handle that.
Today I dropped it for the first time at the gym :-(...
...well, it was more like a flinging of it across the room, I feared for its life... the arms of an elliptical trainer grabbed the cord and yanked it, causing it to fly across the room, lol.
It didnt stop playing, it acted as though nothing even happened...
awesome.
I'm using the Jam skin thing you can buy at compusa for 20 bucks, I love it and I'm pretty sure thats what saved it from the fall. I also am using a screen protector made for a pda that I cut and fit to the screen, works like a charm as well.
The battery life is exactlly as I expect, I use it all day, charge it at night... never goes below half so far, and I'm making an external battery pack for it myself.
I'm at about 35 gigs of music, in my pocket... it's still pretty surreal to think about it...
The remote surprised me as well, its great. It's ergonomic to use and easily turns the iPod off from outside my pocket when I enter a class or whatever. I can even use it easily when I'm on my bike. When I'm using it I rarely take the ipod out of my pocket, I simply make an on the fly playlist and go.
This is the first apple product I've bought, and they have proved to me that they know how to make a product that WORKS and works with such an amazing style and ease of use. Unlike the archos or some other embarrassingly ugly mp3 players, this thing actually is a part of my "ensemble"( :-* ) and you find yourself not afraid to let it peek out of your pocket, hah
It was worth the extra cost, by far!
A very satisfied iPod customer,
Dave
