hey!

could anyone explain to me how to set up an mp3 on the flash card of my rokr as a ringtone? i have found the file under multimedia > sounds and can play it back, but there is no "set as ringtone" option, although i'm sure i've read about this function in some reviews of the phone.
thanks!

and please: don't say "return the rokr, get a good phone". i have read the reviews and the phone works fine for my type of user (ipod as main music player).

You can't set a ringtone from the transflash card - it has to be on the phone's memory. Use a program like Power Mp3 Cutter (http://www.cooolsoft.com/mp3cut.htm) to cut the mp3 down to about 25 secs and lower the bitrate if you want (to save space).

If I'm not mistaken and I've read the documentation right, you CANNOT set any of the songs in your external memory card as a ringtone. The phone will simply not allow you to. In order to put a song as a ringtone, you must use Motorola's program "mobile Phonetools" to access the ROKR's INTERNAL MEMORY and transfer it there. Be advised, the internal memory's 5MB total, without counting your pictures and existing ringtones and downloaded games and software. You'll have to edit your song using Multimedia Studio inside the phonetools program (it will autocutdown its quality) and then upload it to your phone. If the song quality (it cuts it down to 32Kbps mono) is too low for you, use an external program to cut the song into the part you want, and save it to... say... 64kbps mono. It's pointless to use stereo, trust me. and 64kbps mono is equal to 128kbps stereo. And then, use the phone explorer in the mobile phonetools to upload your new mp3 to the program's memory.
