Heard some stories about the cords falling to pieces, I was going to buy the HJE70's but I decided that I'm not willing to pay £50 .
I can get the ex71's for bout £20 and they are comfortable and sound half decent (I presume).
So whats the beef with the cord?
Is it older models?
Has anyone asked sony whats the beef with the cord?
I apologise for the excessive use of the word "beef", if I have offended thee I doth beg forgiveness.
Touche, touche .........indeed.

The beef with them is the exact thing that you asked about. The cords fall to pieces very quickly. A friend of mine has owned two pairs of ex-71's and they have both been guilty of having very flimsy cords that fall apart too easily.

The sound is ####e, too. Horrible, horrible, muddy over exaggerated bass and swishy hissy highs.
If you have to be cheap, then go for the JVC HA FX55, the Panasonic HJE50, the Phillips She 9500 (not the 590 or 592!) or the Sennheiser CX300.
Or bite the bullet and buy the HJE70 and have £100 quality for £52....

I can get the JVC for the same price so I will probably get them.
Maybe get a set of Panasonics when I get some cash, spent most of my money on gig tickets so I'm skint.

Dont go for it.

I don't use mine too often (the cord length is a #####), but I have noticed that the bit that goes behind the neck is sticky/rubbery/putty like, and doesn't feel like it will last forever.
They are comfortable though, and the best sounding headphones I've got so I'll keep using them untill they break, then hopefully I'll get the cash together to buy something better.
The only problem is I have really small ears, and don't want to spend £50+ on some that will be uncomfortable.
