In theory, someone could put all the groovy new features in the 3G software on a 2G iPod, since it's all just software. The only problem being that you can't just try to put the stuff on there outright, you've gotta mess with it somehow to do it, so I ask these questions.

1. Has anyone done it or can it be done?

2. What are the chances that Apple will just release anew version of the software that'll put these features on?

What are these 'groovy new features' exactly? Shorter battery life? Grotty non intuitive button arrangement? Silly battery-sapping OTG playlists?

PsychicRefugee, it is possible to put Linux on the iPod, so I see no reason why this isn't possible... You should try doing it... It would take you over a year even if you know your stuff...

See you then

I would like to see ratings implemented on the 2nd Gen.

All I really want is the Notes option, since there's that program that'll let you put e-books on your iPod with that feature. And the on-the-go playlists sound nice too. And I'm not the guy to be looking to for programming and such. Although I think I might nkow the right guy to do it. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried or made progress towards this.

I want to have 4G features on my 3G when it comes out.
