I have been using iTunes with my Windows PC for quite a while now and have had several iPods.
I have a problem importing certain CD's into iTunes.
What happens is that on certain CD's and these tend to be older titles rather than newly purchased CD's when I load the CD and get the track info up on iTunes and then press the import button the CD starts to import the first track and then immediately freezes and won't continue to import the CD.
The result is that it freezes up my PC and I have to turn off the PC at the mains and abort importing that particular CD into iTunes
This is annoying-as I say it tends to happen on certain CD's I bought not recently but more in the past-I should add that I own over 8000 CD's and all are in immaculate condition so this fault is not because the CD is damaged or scratched in any way.
Can anyone help me with this please?-I would love to know how to cure it

The first suggestion that comes to mind would be to try a different application to rip your CD's. It sounds like iTunes isn't getting along with the CD's in question, so circumvent it altogether and download a freeware app to rip your tracks and then, once ripped, import them into your iTunes Music Library.

Thanks for the response
I import all my Cd's into iTunes using AAC 192kbps and have about 8500 tracks in iTunes all of which are mirrored on my iPod.
How can I ensure that by using your suggestion I could import the non iTunes imported tracks into iTunes and that they would be AAC 192kbps?

Ahhh... now I see the real problem. You want to rip your CD tracks to AAC without using iTunes. Gotcha.

That's a toughie alright. You have two, maybe three options:

1. I believe that Nero at v6.x or v7.x supports ripping to AAC.
2. You can do it via WinAmp, but the process is uuuuuugly. Butt-### ugly.
3. Psytel (http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Misc__Sound_Tools/CD_n_Go__Suite_99_Download.html). Psytel is the preferred encoder for ripping to the AAC format. You could look for other links if you don't like the one provided, of course. Psytel can a liiiiittle tricky to find, but it's out there.
