View Full Version : Sick of seeing white earbuds everywhere?

I don't get why people stick to those dang earbuds for so long. I have known some people to have even gone out and purchase white earbuds after they ruined their old ones! I go to a university and EVERYONE wears them. It's almost like an alien takeover. When i go to the library, all i see are white earbuds. I didn't even bother opening my white earbuds, I already had a pair of e2c (with headphone amp) that i used with my H320. I know this isn't a constructive post but I just wanted to see if anyone else can share in the hate of the iconic (POS) earbuds.

When I got my 4G in December 2004 I only knew a couple of people with iPods. I used my white earphones with pride. Now when I go to the gym I see nohting but white earphones. They seem to be saying, "Look at me. I'm just like everyone else." I still use my white ones but not as a pride statement anymore. It's just that I'm too cheap to buy a really good set of earphones.

i cant stand them, i'll openly admit that. i think people use them because they think other people will think they have money to throw around if they can buy an ipod. i find them uncomfortable and audioly inadequte(you know what i mean) so i just cant see why people would want to use them.
i even notice some people with white buds that at first glace are from apple, but then arent. others even have the apple ones, but are using a cd player with them just to look cool.

I feel the exact same way!
It's so damn annoying how poeple think the White earbuds give them status. I just ear my black sony's and when I take out my iPod, it totally rapes theirs, to the core.
you know because it's really cool looking.

When i go to the library with my e2c and amp, my friends always come over and chill with me when they're taking a break. Then sometimes they try my earbuds cause as you know, they don't look like typical earbuds and fit kind of funny in the ear. They then tell me my earbuds suck, and i'm like, what's wrong with them? Then they say, I hear weird noises in the background and everything sounds echoey (sound of instruments ringing, etc). "My ipod ones are better". I just look back and shake my head. I guess after listening to flat noises from their white buds, they don't know how music should sound like...

I like the white on black contrast I get with my Black iPod.. but don't like the stock buds. I have a pair of the white Griffin EarThumps. In-ear, white, and sound great for the sub-$20 price ;)

i see a few. mainly the most i ever see are people on the street.
so i'm not sure if i'm lucky or not.
Advertising works. You have a trendy company with flashy commercials of young adults dancing around with white headphones, and suddenly its cool. I always thought it was funny that the most visible part that makes the ipod trendy (and the part that the commercials focus on) is the headphones....which actually are probably its weakest part!
One thing that I really didn't like about the iPod when I bought it is the hipster image that Apple sells, and I hated the white case & buds (which was all they had at the time). I caught a lot of grief for saying that a black iPod would be nice. Oh well - black headphones & a black leather case, and my 4G is reduced to being what it really is at heart - a music player - which is all I ever wanted in the first place.

^ apparently some people on this forum listen to theirs even while taking exams. sigh. the young generation... ;)
The white earbud thing is really rampant in a major city like New York. They are everywhere. On the subway, on the street, in shops, in office buildings. On billboards, of course, too - likea previous poster said, that's what started the hype in the first place.
I'm still one of the white-earbudders, the sound is good enough for me, as I'm not that much of an audiophile to know or care much. But to seek 'coolness' by using white earbuds just for the sake of following the in-crowd, that's kind of lame. And sad. I doubt there are many adults who do that. At least I'd like to think so...

dont the "stock" apple buds physically hurt your ears as well? i mean, im pretty sure my ears arent anything weird, but those buds actually hurt my ears. maybe i was wearing then wrong, but they just didnt go in, they were like big and round and flat, it was weird i guess.
the ones i got with my nano i sold to a kid at school for $20 because he lost his(he had an ipod mini, or i wouldnt have sold them to him, haha). i found it funny that he would pay that much for them, but after that, day and in and out, he wore em. go figure.

I gave my 5G's white earbuds to my friend who currently broke his. He bought some weird adapter that supposedly made them more comfortable. They looked crazy.

I used the stock earbuds for nearly a year. They hurt my ears at the beginning, but then it stopped. I got a new 'Pod, and was worried about it getting stolen. I got some ER-6i's (black, of course) and was amazed by the sound. I am aware of three other people who have had iPods since before any winter holiday. None of them still uses the stock earbuds for one reason or another. Everyone I know who got an iPod for Christmas or other, still uses the Apple earbuds. They walk around and talk to people, as if to say, "Look at me, I've got an iPod." For those of us who know better, that only makes both the music and conversation worse.

I'm not sick of white buds.. I don't see a problem trying to get something that matches. I remember when I had my mini and I snapped my old stocks I ordered white ones straight away because the black replacements I had laying around looked weird against the iPod it..just didn't match at all to me and I love things to match! now I have black hje70 headphones on my black ipod with my black speck toughskin :P
I guess some people are weird and want you to know they have an iPod, but I never wanted to advertise it I just wanted it to match ::shrug::

Sometimes I am one of those people. I have my quality headphones, but once in a while I'll have misplaced them and I'll just grab the Apple earbuds. They're fine for podcasts, and after about 10 minutes I can hardly notice I'm using them...except when they start falling out of my ear. But if the music is good enough I can manage to get past the horrible fidelity.
At the same time, I do feel like a schmuck wearing them in public...same thing when I wear my messenger bag. A young man w/ a bad haircut can't help but look like he's striving for a certain image when he puts one of those on...

Eww that's sick!
I don't know about any of you but I NEVER share headphones. That's like swapping ear fungus.

Tons of people have them at my high school, it's insane... I have them too though... We have 40 mins in the morning before classes to roam and do w/e we want so people wear them and show off their iPod then. Some teachers, like in my engineering class, don't mind if you wear them as long as they're not really really loud or something. And then there's lunch... But yeah, after xmas I noticed tons of people with them. The more people that have them, the more people that don't have them, want them. the iPod will be around for a long while still...

I feel like a ###### when I have to wear the apple stock's. I have no choice at the moment because I have no money and a new nano with only the apple earphone.
I do find it funny that some people (I even know a few personally) who wouldnt get other earphones because they want people to know they have a ipod and see it as a fashion statement. Generally they have poor taste in music and buy a 30gb and put the top 40 on it.
Can't wait to get some new phones!

I remember way back in 2001 when i got my 1G iPod, no one had those white earbuds and I actually met a guy who asked me where he could buy white earbuds :)
Now everyone has them..

The stock buds hurt my ears, so I got rid of them as soon as possible. Here in NYC you see the white buds everywhere. It is like the short film against the brainwashing that the ipod craze has created. I now have E3C's or ER 6i for better quality and that's it. I am not following a trend, I just want to listen to my music. :)

that's sad! hopefully they're young and stupid ^_^;;
oddly enough I never wanted to trade my headphones in when I had my mini because 1. they matched and 2. they were more comfortable to me (and stayed in my ears easiest) than all the others I had.
Now I am extremely happy with me HJE70s though.
