Just wondering what everyone's opinion of the earpuds that come with the iPod. (I have the Video iPod, if that matters, or if revisions were made from iPod to iPod). Like are they really cheap quality or comparable to those gummy/colorful earbuds that you see everywhere. Or Like If I Spend $10 on some Phillips Headphones, the ones that are iPod Section in Wal-Mart...Have I already surpassed, the quality of the default earbuds....cause I realized those eardbuds are not really capabale of bass...

Thanks in Advance...

The standard issue iPod "earpuds", suck, yes. There are several threads though that deal with good replacement options. I'd suggest doing some research before putting money down on anything.

If you purchase those $10.00 or even the $29.00 Phillips earphones, you would not, in my opinion have surpassed the quality of the original iPod earbuds. They are a very decent sounding, mid-range quality pair of earbuds. I now own a pair of the substantially better sounding Ultimate Ear Superfi.5 Pro's and absolutely love them but you really have to spend a bit more money to surpass the originals.

Yeah, combined with the 'Small Speakers' setting in the iPod's EQ, the pack-in Apple earbuds aren't that bad as far as earbuds go. You either have to go with over-ear headphones or in-ear models if you really care about sound quality.

I dont know I think the ipod headphones are pretty cheap and the quality isnt so great either. After one day of my 5g ipod the base on my right ear was horrible. It was like the headphones were blown out. I would think you would have to get headphones over $20 to beat the quality of the standard headphones.

I think the Sennhieser MX500 are the cheapest buds that (only just) surpass the quality of the pack-ins; and the difference is so small it's not worth the asking price.

If you're looking to beat the pack-ins, and make it worth your while then you're better looking at the $50 range.

personally, I would say that the pack-in iPod earbuds do the job when you first buy your iPod. However, after a couple days, they were blown. I have since gotten 3 replacement pairs just because they are good for when i don't use my over the ear Sony's :)
