itunes ipods and updates

i just reformated my pc and downloaded the new itune, 6.0.2

i got my ipod to dock with the new itunes fine, but when i connect it, it asks if i want to install the new itunes onto my ipod, what should i do, i would like to instal it but i dont know what will happen, if i instal it does that mean my ipod is wiped clean? or will there just be some change in the software and my songs and stuff will stay the same?

i have a 4th gen vintage ipod by the way

It shouldn't wipe the iPod, just follow the instructions.
