I know this issue has be discussed but I still can't find a fix

Please help...

I have a 30gig video, iTUNES and Windows XP

Recently I have tryed to sync my iPOD but iTUNES will not recognise it.

I can find the iPOD as a Mass Storage Device in My Computer.

I was able to find a temp. fix for this problem but it seems not to work every time.

I hook up iPOD, go to Device Mgr, right clic on USB Mass Storage (iPOD) and clic "Uninstall"

Then I re-plug in the iPOD and clic on "Action" and choose :Scan for hardware changes.

This worked a couple of times but not this time.

I might have done something else but can't remember exactly.

As I have been downloading songs from Limewire recently, I was wondering if this has anything to do with the problem... everything else seems to be working fine in my computer and nothing seems to be affected by thie limewire downloads, but I was thinking this might be Apple's way of getting me back for using this program.

Anyway, can you suggest a fix for iTUNES not recogniseing the iPOD

Just to clarify... Windows is recognizing your iPod as a drive when you connect it, but iTunes is not speaking with said iPod, is that correct?

Off the top of my head I would simply suggest you switch to Media Monkey, but, maybe you're particuarly fond of iTunes for reasons all your own.

If that's the case, I would wait for someone more knowledgable than I when it comes to using iTunes, but until then, have you set iTunes to launch automatically when you connect your iPod? Maybe that will kick iTunes into gear for you.

And no one around here knows anything about this "Limewire" application you mention... P2P is a verboten topic.

Correct,

Windows is recognising it but not iTUNES.

What is Media Monkey?

And excuse me, did I say Li%#m W*%E ???

Media Monkey looks like iTUNES, and I would happily use it if it will solv my problems.

Will it work the same as iTUNES with poscasts, videos ect?
What will be the differances between the two?

Will it work better than iTunes for a Windows based system?

Thanks so much

I just discovered I have been granted the privledge of posting links directly in my post's now, sooo... that being the case:

BEHOLD! The beauty, the finesse, the spine tingling awesomeness that is... Media Monkey (http://www.mediamonkey.com/).

Check it out and decide for yourself if you think its worthwhile to swap over. Personally, I much prefer it to iTunes, but of course, it may not be your cup o' tea.

I guess Media Monkey is good but I gather it will not support Podcasts and Videos as of yet.

If anyone wants to give me a call I will be happy to help them. Phone call is better as I type very slowly.

Based on what I've heard from some other users experiencing the same problem, I would suggest that you run one of the previous updaters. iTunes frequently doesn't seem to want to recognize iPods after updating to the 2006 - version.

Conversely, you could try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer:

Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).

This will often get your 'Pod recognized, but it may take several attempts.

Just to help others who may come along... what, exactly, did the trick? I'm assuming it was resetting the recalcitrant 'Pod while connected to your PC?

As I type really slowly it will be easier to tell you

Reset ipod
Take out the new update (2006)
Reinstall ipod by way of CD

Go to Device Mgr (with ipod hooked up)
Go to usb controllers
Right clic on Device / IPOD (as a mass storage device)
choose un-install
After un-install re-hook up your ipod
Go to "Action' (at top) and choose "Scan for hardware changes"
You should then see a "new hardware" dialog box come up saying your new hardware in installed.

There you go....

Try it...
