I can't remove songs from my ipod. I have 20 GB, of which only 5 GB are filled, but I really don't want to be stuck with some of the stupid podcasts and other junk on my ipod.

When I go to my ipod as a source, there is a little lock icon at the bottom of the screen. My songs all appear in a faint font and I can't move them, checkmark them or do anything with them.

I googled and I even looked in my "How to Do Everything with Your Ipod" book. No luck. Help??? Please?

Just uncheck the songs/podcasts/other that you don't want on the iPod, then in your iPod preferences page (in the iTunes preferences), chose the "update checked songs only" button.

Or, you can disable auto-sync, and use manual. Then everything WONT be greyed out, and you'll have to manually copy files to the iPod instead of auto-updating.

As long as everything is light gray, it won't let me check/uncheck anything!

What am I missing here? I know this is just me being dumb.

When you change the ipod settings in itunes to only update checked songs (as TheJosher indicated) you have to uncheck the songs in your Library, not on the ipod source in itunes. Hope this helps.

I do this to clear off podcasts that I have listened to but don't necessarily want to delete from my computer yet.
