Today, "How The West Was Won" (3 CD Set) and "DVD" (2 DVD Set) were released. I picked them both up tonight at Best Buy (great prices), and am blown away. These are both fantastic sets. I recommend them highly to any fan of rock music, or music in general.
Patrick.

I just got these tonight at a Best Buy. 3 CDs for like $17. I am listening to the 1st one in my iPod right now.
I agree with you assesment, really great stuff, and it remind me of why I stood in line many years ago to get "Physical Graffitti" when it arrived at the record store! I think I was all of 16 then.
These are some great performances as of yet, and I am enjoying it immensely!!!! :)

Bakerman, we must be about the same age. I was a huge Zep-head in high school, and was 16 when "Physical Graffitti" was released. I loved that album so much that I literally wore the LPs out on my turntable (yeah, you young guys - no CDs back then! :D) after about a year and promptly went out and bought another copy.
And, I remember oh-so-well camping out all night for tickets to see them in concert here in Atlanta in the Omni in 1976. Floor seats in the center about 30 rows back. Man, what a show!
Then, 10 days later, I saw Pink Floyd (on the "Animals" tour), also in the old Omni (since torn down). I'll never forget that huge inflatable pig floating around (amidst all the smoke, heh, heh ;)) in the ceiling of the Omni.
Man, those were the days........

I'm making my trip to Best Buy tonight, and I'm doubling it. I owe my brother-in-law a gift, and this is the perfect thing.

I'm going to pick up the CD & DVD sets tonight as well.
Oh, and that was 1977 when I saw Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd 10 days apart, not 1976.
I guess all that smoke at the concerts fuzzed my memory.
Second hand smoke, of course..... :D

Glad to hear that your background is similar. I never got to see Zeppelin or Pink Floyd in those days. You sure are lucky! I did not start doing the concert thing till 1980 (my GOD- that is 23 years ago)
The iPod has rekindled much of my interest in some older music I have not listened to in years.
Funny what you said about wearing out the albums- I DID TOO! I bought another album to replace it, bought it on 8 track to play in the car, and later on CD. I have played that album to death, and I especially loved "10 years gone"!

Awesome song!
And, I forgot about 8-track tape - I'm pretty sure i bought it on 8-track for my car as well.
For others who have yet to purchase these new Led Zeppelin releases, I found an incredible deal tonight at Circuit City.
If you buy both the CD set and the DVD set together, they are only $30!
For both!
Tom
EDIT: BTW, I think the Circuit City sale is over after tomorrow (Saturday).....

The inflatable pig broke loose at one of the UK Floyd gigs. An acquaintance of mine then encountered it in his Gazelle (Army helicopter) as he flew close to Battersea power station. When he landed he filed the most amazing AIRMISS report of the year.........

For a modern take on Led Zep, do try "Second Coming" by the Stone Roses................ even better than the originals (yes, of course I bought it anyway!)
For once I can take advantage of the "Best Buy" "Circuit City" tips that are often bandied about these forums.
I hope to fill up on stuff before my time to return to Blighty comes round.
The LZ triple has caught my eye, but having just got "Remastered" a few weeks ago would it be worth getting this as well?
I also got Physical Grafitti, and Kashmir was one of my fav tracks.
Saw Pink Floyd "The Wall" while living in Germany (1980/1?) and Genesis Duke tour I think it was.
The dim and distant past........
;)

I've been meaning to get that album based on your recommendations, Jacko. I'll do it this weekend.

Well, Bob, I haven't gotten around to actually listening to the 3 CD set yet (I have, of course, ripped & encoded it & put it on iPod, however! ;)), but I am watching the DVDs as I type this.
The DVD set is simply amazing.
On the ride home after purchasing the CDs and DVDs, I remembered my disappointment in the video tape "The Song Remains The Same" when I bought it years ago. I like the concert footage in the video, sure, but I felt all the other non-concert footage was a distraction.
I had a fear that the DVDs I had just purchased would be equally disappointing. I had nothing to worry about, as it turns out.
The DVDs feature nothing but concert footage (except for some very interesting promo & rare interview tidbits that are included under the special features from the main menus and thankfully not interlaced with the concert footage). Included is footage from a 1970 concert at Royal Albert Hall, a 1973 concert at Madison Square Garden, a 1975 concert at Earls Court and a 1979 show at Knebworth.
The video quality is simply amazing given the age of the footage. And, the DTS 5.1 soundtrack is very well mixed and sounds wonderful. The power of their live act comes across beautifully.
So, the DVD set comes highly, highly recommended. It has renewed my decades old love of Led Zeppelin. Amazing stuff.

Well, it was cool seeing them live, but then again, if it were possible, I might be persuaded to trade having seen them for being 21 again (and knowing what I know now) instead of 44! :D :D

Tom,
Hmmmmmm, you have whet my appetite - for $17 for 3 CD's I would be mad to pass it up. Thats just over 10 quid with the current exchange rate!!! With the CD's and DVD's costing $30 thats a good deal!!!!!
