I have an aging 3G 40 GB model and would like to be able to charge it via the firewire port on a Toshiba laptop. I get no love trying to run/charge from the firewire port. Is there some windows/iPod/iTunes setting I need to enable to get the iPod to charge via the firewire port?
TIA

Typically, the firewire ports on laptops do not provide power to connected devices and therefore can't be used to charge your iPod.

It's not a function of laptops vs. desktops. It tends to be a function of Mac vs. Windows. Macs use 6-pin firewire ports, Windows generally uses 4-pin...the former carries power and the latter doesn't.
