I cannot get my 3G iPod to work with my Toshiba Laptop any longer.

iTunes will see it and I will begin to do an update to fill it with songs and then iTunes freezes up and stops responding. I eventually get the message

==> "The drive is not ready for use; It's door may be open. Please check drive H: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed."

iPod updater will say iPod Service Error, which means that iPodService.exe is not working correctly. I followed all the tips on the Apple site to correct this problem, no luck. I have competely reinstalled XP/MCE on the laptop with the Tosh system disc twice now. I reinstalled iTunes twice, no luck. I tried to use USB2 and firewire connections, no luck. I tried different USB connections, no luck.

I can take the iPod to my old desktop PC, runing XP pro and it with update and fill with 37 GB of music, so the iPod is fine. It's definitely a sw issue on the Tosh Laptop.

Any ideas how to fix this? I have been using this iPod and this same Tosh Laptop for 2 years now and I was even using iTunes 6.02 successfully. The question is what has changed? and given that I competely reformatted the disc to reinstall XP MCE, I cannot say what changed to cause this new problem. I even went to DL the current version of iTunes, in case my copy was bad.

I'm out of ideas, please let me know if you have anything I can try to resolve this issue.

TIA

[Edit] - I followed these instruction, but no luck resolving the issue.

Ok, looks like I may have found it.

I unplugged all USB devices, except the USB kbd/mouse and then I connected the 3G iPod to the firewire. This now works and is syncing the iPod to my library.

One problem is that my 3G ipod will not run off the battery long enough (waiting on iPod settlement resolution) to load 37 GB of music. Sure enough it died after about 6 GB was loaded. So I now have it hooked up to the USB2 via the dock and a USB/firewire (for power) cable. Seems to be working OK and syncing to the Lib.

Isn't the iPod supposed to run/charge off the firewire port? Do I have to set some windows setting to enable firewire charging?

Any ideas how to trace down the USB conflict I appearently have?
