I just opened my first iPod like 10 minutes ago. I was SHAKING, litterally. Has anyone else shook before they opened theirs? Anyway, I had never seen one in person, only photos. Seeing it for the first time was like seeing a newborn baby. It couldn't have been more beautiful. Honestly, it was a lot smaller than I had imagined, smaller in a good way, and it didn't pick up fingerprints nearly as much as I had imagined. But then i had to put it back in the box, and pour all those packing peanuts back over it. You see, my iPod is a Christmas present from my parents, and I was only allowed to open it to check and see that everything was there. Piling on those peanuts and re-closing that box was like burying a friend alive. Am I the only one who thinks that's just cruel? (That's not retorrical, I really want to know if I'm the only one.) Until December 25... :( :( :(

Amazing present you got there!
I think it's more torture to have been able to open it and "check" the pod than if you had never opened it at all.
I suggest passing the time by ripping all your CDs and getting your iTunes playlists ready ;) BTW, which version did you get?

isn't it thanksgiving soon in the US - can't you work out some kind of deal with your folks to let you have the iPod then. i couldn't stand waiting for the six days it took to come from US to Australia, so i most definitely could not take waiting over a month.
good luck if you have to, and i think your folks should give you another reward at Xmas if you manage it LOL!

Ah, jonmon, one step ahead of you. The day I ordered my iPod I downloaded iTunes (heffer of a download, like 17 MB; I have dial-up) and then I immediately put every song I've listened to in the past year on iTunes and spent the whole day organizing everything into playlists and smart playlists. The version is a 1G 5GB (actually my favorite generation with the manual buttons and wheel, and 5GB is more than enough space for me.) And my parents aren't like that, yinyang, they already caved on getting me the iPod so early, if I asked them to give it to me for Thanksgiving, they'd get REALLY mad and I'd probably get yelled at. I'm just glad you all agree with me that this is TORTURE! and that it's not just me being incredibly materialistic.

i'd agree that it would be a tough wait.
don't worry about being "materialistic." it's only that if you're getting it to show off, or to make people jealous, or to be part of the crowd.
if you're into music and it's gonna help you spend more time with your passion, then the iPod is really one of the best things out there in the portable audio market.

oh, and yinyang: Thanksgiving is supposed to be one of those holidays where you spend time being grateful for who and what you have, not wanting more. asking for a gift to be given then is sorta...against the whole idea, at least if you're into the giving thanks part of Thanksgiving. but i do understand where you're coming from...

Holy moly! That is the exact senario I have! Except that I got a 15gig used. I got it out and listened to it for like 2 hours until my Mom came home and told me it needed to be packed back up for christmas. Arg. And actually I thought I was the only one this kinda thing happens too!

Christophillis, I know it's tough, but you're lucky. At least you got to listen to it, the most noise I heard mine make was the clicky clicky sound the wheel makes when you spin it. But it'll be okay, it'll be okay...God, I hope it'll be okay.

Chelce, I know exactly what your going through. I haven't actually seen mine yet, but I did order an iSkin eXo and, well, that's the closest thing to an iPod I have to look at... I can't wait, I can't wait... :'(

I think that all you guys (and gals) that have to wait until xmas to get your hands on your iPods should get an iPodder of the week/month award for having the determination to wait until then and not make a huge fuss about having it earlier.
How about it moderators - new forum where iPodders can be nominated for 'acts of heroism under sever duress' or contributions to the greater good of iPodders etc..! and be voted on by all and sundry...?

At Thanksgiving I am grateful for my iPods! Try using that one to win over your parents! lol, ;)

Maybe I will have to try that at the Thanksgiving table, perhaps if I make a big enough spectacle they'll give it to me to shut me up.

I told my wife that my recently purchased iPod could wait til Christmas to be opened, so we'd have more stuff under the tree. She thought about it, and said to just go ahead and open it. Glad she did! I reckon I could have waited, but now that I've played with it, the wait would be too long.

Hey, waiting that long? hehe when i got mine, I was doing work experience at an AppleCentre, and at the end of it I payed for HALF of my iPod, and had to wait 2 months till I could pay the other half... I'd chosen the one I wanted and everything! I EVEN GOT TO PUT TH ERECIEPT ON THE BOX AND PUT THE BOX AWAY! It hurt, knowing it was sitting in the storeroom the whoel time.

I'm sure it must've hurt knowing that it was just sitting there in another room all alone, but believe me I know what you're going through. Not only can I not have mine, but I have to keep the box in my room and not open it until Christmas. It's a cruel world, but it will all be worth it on Christmas day...now if only I could make it until then...

Guess I won't tell my wife what she's getting for xmas!! Don't want to torture her!
She has been hinting at wanting an mp3 or md player recorder, I don't think she even knows what an iPod is. But after doing a little research I ordered her a new 30Gb 3g., iTrip, exo2 and a firewire card for her laptop. This thing looks so cool! I think I am the one being tortured, and its not even for me!
I want to start setting up iTunes, but don't want to give away the surprise. She doesn't have any mp3's, so we (she) will have to start from scratch, and we have about 400 CD's to rip. At least it will give her something to do while I am gone skiing! :)

Well, I got my 40GB iPod for my 40th birthday last week, from my lovely wife.
I was thinking of trying to get one for Xmas by scrimping the cash together.
But she beat me to it. Anyway I've spent the last week converting my extensive CD collection so that I can get it all on my iPod.
It is a thing of beauty, there's no doubt.
