Does anyone know how to change the name of the book on the iPod G3? I can't tell easily which file is the "next" in a multi-file book.

For example, I'm listening to:
"Dune: The Machine Crusade (Unabridged), Part 2".

My iPod shows this and the other three book files as:
"Dune: The Machine C..."

My preference would be to rename the file as:
"Part 2 - Dune: The Machine Crusade (Unabridged)"
or something similar.

Related question - if this can't be done in Audible Manager, can it be done in other managers? I have the MusicMatch s/w that came with my PCs and would keep it if I can just do renaming!

In iTunes: if you right click on the book title in your Library, you'll get a pop-up window. Select "get info" and then you'll find a tab "Info." On that tab, you'll be able to rename the book.

I am using Audible to transfer the books to iPod, I search all over trying to find the tag to rename.

cdelaf,
AudibleManager will not allow you to change tags.

If you want to change tag names, you have to make the leap to using iTunes.

cdelaf,
Check the Audible for iPod User's Guide.

It explains using iTunes and includes links to both Audible and Apple support that tell you everything you need to know.

Its pretty simple. Personally, I prefer it over AudibleManager, especially if you are using your iPod for combination of music and Audible content.

Also, there is a very detailed post from user Robert linked below that gives a thorough, step by step account of importing your Audible files into iTunes.

Now I can rename my Book Titles, much better.
Also the sync time is minimal compared to MMJB syn time, hours verses minutes.

why does audbile.com have the following q&a on hep site:

Can I change the ID tags of my audible.com titles in iTunes?

Question
Can I change the ID tags of my audible.com titles in Itunes?

Answer
It is not recommended that customers change the ID tags of audible.com files. If you change the ID tags of your audible.com files in iTunes you will not be able to listen to them on the iPod.

Its sortofa trick question.

The Audible file is not an .mp3 so actually does not use an ID3 tag. So you can't change the ID3 tag, technically speaking.

However, you can change the file names and descriptions in iTunes. This info is stored in the iTunes database file, rather than an ID3 tag.

Note though, that since the info is only stored in iTunes rather than the file itself, if you delete the file from iTunes, and then reimport it later, your name changes will be lost, since they weren't stored in the original file.

But for practical purposes, you can use iTunes and rename your Audible files any way you want.
