Recently, I've been adding cover art to my ID3 tags on my music collection.
But for some reason, it chews up an enormous amount of HD space every time I do it.
I place a 300 x 300 jpg of the cover art in the music folder and title it folder.jpg; Overall HD space taken is minimal.
I add the cover art to the tag of an mp3 file using a tag editor. Overall HD space decreases by 4-10MB. That's bigger then the mp3 file. And the file size of the mp3 tag I added the cover art to does not increase by more then 300k, yet my overall HD space drops 4-10MB. In editing 10 albums, I have lost more then 1GB of HD space and can't identify why.
What's worse, if I delete the tag from the mp3, I do not recover the space. And I i re-add the cover art to that tag, I lose ANOTHER 4-10MB. If I keep experimenting, I will be out of HD space and will practically need to do a complete format because I don't even know what is chewing the file space.
I have tried using 2 stand-alone tag editors, one fantastic cover art program, and have done it in itunes 6.0.1.3 with all the same results. There is no way that effects everyone. You would need a massive 400GB HD just to store a few hundred CDs.
btw - My mp3s were ripped to 192 kbps, and have ID3v2.3 tags. Any help is appreciated.
