I had a problem with my iPod, it would show up in My Computer, as a portable drive, F:, and i didnt know what to do. I read some forums here, one said to right click your ipod in that My Computer Menu, then select, Open As A Portable Media Player Device. Check iTunes. If not there, exit iTunes. Now Restart iTunes. It showed up for me.
Other things that have worked include simply switching USB ports, and restarting my iPod.
