Hi,
I have new 10 GB, actually a version II ipod, with 1.2.1 installed. I am using ehphpod to mount it on a PC, so keeping with the Mac formating to begin with. Everything seems to work just fine, question is? Is there any reason to upgrade to 1.2.6, or 1.3? I have read the reports of lower volume settings in 1.2.6 and 1.3. Is there any additional functionality in these two updates that would prove interesting?
What about the advantages or disadvantages of switching to 1.2.6 for PC? Currently, I don't really see the need or reason to switch the OS or formatting of the drive in the ipod to PC if simple syncing is fine.
Does anyone have good link to a thread that has these types of details? I wasn't able to find one using the simple search function.
thanks

The advantages of 1.3 over 1.2.1:

- Better battery management and accurate battery indicator.
- Backlight is accessible from the main menu
- AAC support (which means support for songs downloaded from the iTunes store.)

I am in pretty much the same boat the thread starter. I have a 20GB Mac-formatted iPod and I use XPlay to sync songs to the iPod. I have iPod software version 1.2.6 and I want to upgrade to 1.3. What is the best way for a Windows user to upgrade their Mac-formatted iPod to the latest version without reformatting?

It's always good to upgrade your software of any kind when a new release is out. Even if you don't need/want all the things listed, the developer usually fixes small bugs, etc that will increase the software's stability (even if not mentioned). So even if you don't think you need new features, upgrade.

NTolerance,

I suggest hopping over to the Windows forums and asking your question there - most Mac folks won't know how to help you.

I posted here because my iPod is Mac-formatted, but you're right in that I should have posted it over there. I was able to figure out that XPlay does have an auto-update option without having to make another post though. Worked really well.
