Instead of hacking the firmware has someone thought of just writing a basic os that can make full use of the ipod? wouldn't that be much easier than trying to find the ipod source? Also, if a new os was written, it would be much easier to add support for other codecs, (.ogg...wma :eek: ), and they could make their own accessories/use pc accessories (memory card reader/microphones) on the ipod, without having to shell out more money to apple (although there's nothing wrong with that). Is this stuff even possible?, because i heard that someone put linux on their ipod, but i never heard anthing more about it. Thanks

I don't think anyone ever put linux on their iPod. They just got their iPod to work with linux. Meaning they could load it up.

Not a lot of hacker types here. Might find more over at www.ipodhacks.com
