Hey all,

I've been browsing these forums awhile now and there are a LOT of useful discussions! Thanks to you all :P

Anyway, I bought a 10 giger 3rd gen today... I own the original iRiver SlimX cd mp3 player and I thought it was about time to upgrade ;)

My first impressions weren't to great, the packaging was neat, but when I pulled the ipod out of the box it looked 'cool', but just didn't have that feeling to it... One annoying thing that I've found so far is how bloody easy it is to smudge the ipod, and the finger prints are REALLY REALLY noticible :/

Aesthetically, aside from the fingerprints though, the player looked great. It felt a bit heavier than I thought it would be, but not a big deal. So I load up some songs and start playing around with the interface and MAN during that time I _really_ caught on to why the ipod is so popular. The interface is beautiful! it works like a charm and it flows oh-so-smoothly...

*sigh* The thing is, I never intended on keeping this ipod.. I bought it because I wanted to see how the ipod fits into my lifestyle before I actually made the commitment to buying this... I also wanted to buy it to compare to the iRiver (which is -technically- superior to the ipod in all but aesthetics and UI, and costs the same as the 20 gigger to boot)...

But now I'm not so sure :P Just the way everything is put together.. its so hard to throw away.

Hrmmmphh.. Anyway, got 30 days to decide whether to keep this toy or not ^_^

Why do decisions always have to be so hard :p

That doesn't make alot of sense. You wanted to buy it before making a commitment to buy it? Huh?

he just did a "retail rental." not entirely the most correct thing to do, but if he's not gonna break it, or damage it; try it out, see how he likes it; and then take it back, thereby providing an open item discount for some lucky iPodder-to-be, then it's not TOO terrible.

i wouldn't say everyone should go out and do it, but if you have the means and are really that stuck on the fence, there isn't much to complain about.

heck, i've read on these very forums stories of people who do much worse. i.e. those whose iPod's "break" during their extended warranty period and upgrade to the next iPod model. that's plain wrong. but who are we to judge?
