Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I tried to update the firmware (new ver. 2006-10-01) of my color-60G ipod using my laptop computer (PC, running WIN XP). I first installed the "updater" program and then followed all the insruction (Very da...) Once finished, here is what happened:
The ipod is no longer responding to ANY command. It is always showing an image of the wall charger connected with the USB cable. No matter what I touch, flip, turn, the result is the same (image). I have tried to RESET the machine by pressing the click button as well as the MENU button and It does reboot, but falls back into the same state.
The ipod is no longer responding to any connections with my laptop. itunes or the "updater" program. No metter what I do, I get no response at all. The same image (point 1) is desplayed.
Questions:
How do I get the old firmware into the thing?

How can I communicate with the ipod in order to roll back the firmware?

Thanks for any kinda help!

You have to plug your ipod into its wall charger. If you don't have it then you could probably borrow one from someone else who owns an ipod.

Thank man...
You were totaly right. The ipos needs to be plugged into the wall using the wall charger (not the USB --> Computer cable) in order to activate the update... why? I don't know, but it worked! Thanks again...

Oh that's an easy answer -

Because that's what you're supposed to do.. What if the battery were to die during the update? You'd have a small brick in your hands...

I assume this can be any non-USB power source....so, my MM50 speakers would work fine, since they are plugged right into the wall.....

I believe the reason why you are required to plug your iPod into the wall charger because computer USB ports do not provide a steady supply of power. If your iPod's power went out while upgrading the firmware, you would end up with a paper weight.

Actually, if I remember correctly, once you've installed updater, and brought your ipod up to the current rev, it tells you to plug it in to the wall adapter to reflash your firmware. (I'll leave all the jokes to someone else...)

Glad it is working again. :)

Yeah, too bad the 5G don't support Firewire. Then u wouldn't need to plug your ipod into the wall. I have yet to plug my 4G colour into the wall since i started connected my ipod to my computer by FW.
