Avoid photo sync in iTunes

Hi.

I just bought a 60GB iPod (5G) and I'd like to use it for keeping like 3000 photos (7GB + or -) and then free some hard disk space.

The thing is that I won't be able to update the photos anymore 'cos if I delete the photos from the computer (I back them up in DVD's) next time I sync the iPod, photos get deleted.

Is there any way to avoid this? or a better way to admin the images?
Should I sync always the digital camera to the iPod or it happens the same?

You could always just drag & drop em onto your iPod.

Though this would prevent viewing them on the iPod, you would still have them all.

Or you could update and then afterwards make sure that you put your photos on manually update

Put the photos on manual update?
This option exists or you are refering about just drag & drop?

That will be my solution but I wanted to use the functionalities iPod provides.
