Ipod Not recignized

Hi, I have an ipod. i just bought it off a friend. when i plug it into my computer a message says "usb device not recognised"

How do i fix this Please Hep

My friend had lost the disk. DO you need a disk to make it work. does it need a driver.

PLEASE HELP.

Try installig iTunes.

Then the iPod Updater

install iPod Updater from: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

it contains iPod drivers to make the PC recognize the iPod

i actually had the same problem, and i did uninstall itunes and ipod updater, then reinstalled them, and it still does the "USB device not recognized" it's like windows XP didnt get the driver...there is no driver associated with the ipod, and it is an "unknown device." help would be greatly appreciated.
