IPod and Firewire

I have an older 30gig ipod that works with a firewire cable. I recently grabbed a friends ipod 30gig video/color to download some music to it, however when I plugged it into my dock connector it said it doesn't support firewire. When did this happen? Do all newer ipods not support firewire? I was kinda shocked to see this. Anyone ahve any information for me?
