Just a quick question from a rookie.....what is Alt-Preset-Standard? I'm using windows MMJB, and while i read about it alot on these boards, I can't quite figure out what the hell it is! Perhaps an itunes format? Currently I'm ripping at 192 on a new 30GB ipod.
Any info will be most appreciated!

LAME, the mp3 compression codec of choice, uses a variety of command line switches to get differing results, quality wise. One of them being "--alt-preset standard". There's also; "--alt-preset extreme" and "--alt-preset insane". The quality goes up with each respective one and so does filesize. There are more switches to use, but for great quality that'll be played on everything short of an audiophile grade system, --alt-preset standard will do nicely.
I've never used MMJB, so I don't know if it'll use an external codec like LAME, but most use either EAC or just compress externally with a frontend.
