This may have been covered previously, so apologies if going over old ground.

Are there any software applications that would allow playlist creation with an automatic cross fade between playlist tracks?

A 10-30s fade across tracks would be handy (parties, etc.) though i realise that based on the buffering capacity there would be innevitable gaps, but still less frequent than every track.

Cheers for any ideas.

The iPod firmware doesn't currently support crossfades so the only way to achieve this effect would be to create a single monster crossfaded mp3 file that itself would contain all the various tracks you want to crossfade. A playlist alone will not enable CFs...

I just added a bunch of DJ mixed Cds to my iPod. I was dreading the results but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I took 4-6 songs equalling 20-25 minutes thus not eclipsing iPod's cache time, ripped them as one file and faded out at the end of the last song on the file. Then started up another block of 4-6 songs and so on. This was downbeat/chill/lounge kind of stuff so it worked out really nicely. I realize if it is something where the beat is more constant It would not work as well but I just thought I'd share my result.

... how do you rip the tracks as 1 single track? ... does EAC/LAME encoding have that capability?

Thanks for any help.

I actually rip the multiple tracks as a single song "clip" in the dreaded Music Match JB v7.5. If you go into recorder options you can enable recording as a clip. Then just enter the number of seconds you would like the entire consolidated track or "clip" to be. So, if you are recording two Cd tracks, one at 4:03 and the other at 4:28 you would enter 511 in the seconds field. Then if you wanted a fade in/out, click on the advance tab and enter that info there. Lastly, you only need to check the box next to the first track in the sequence of tracks you will be ripping. It will automatically start ripping from the desired track and will continue ripping sequentially for 511 seconds comprising one file containing the two tracks and fade out (if selected). This allows the existing crossfading to be intact... Once on iPod, obviously you can't start at the beginning of each song but rather at the beginning of each clip or group of songs.

Hope this helps. I don't know if this can be done on Ephpod, MC9 or others but I would assume something similar would be possible.

NiTRO, thanks for the advice, much appreciated - so maybe MMJB is useful for some things ...
