Hopefully this is the correct forum for this.

Just wondering how you organise your iPod? Like, what playlists have you created? I don't mean songs, but what kind of playlists? Something like a "party" mix is a little too general. Do you create genre playlists? Auto-biographical?

How do you do the do?

Cheers

I do genres, relaxing music, deep/thoughtful music, exciting/fire up music, and five star rated songs. That's about it.

Yeah I do all of the standard ones.. favourite songs from certain genres, a couple of artist ones, ambient/relaxing stuff, 5 Star, and so on. I also combine all of my previous On-The-Go playlists into one big list.

i'm probably a one-of-a-kind ipod user because i dont play by playlists. I just go into an artist and let it shuffle. And when i get bored of an artist, i just go to another.

I never use playlists in my normal listening. The only time I do, though, is for party's where I'm choosing the music. I handpick each song and it's order :D

I don't have very complicated playlists. Just a lot of "Top 25" by artists who have enough songs. Such as my Smashing Pumpkins Top 25 and so forth. I also have a 5 star playlist for my Nano.

Awesome, thanks for the input.

I like the 5-star and instrumental playlist idea. I think I'm gonna create a one-hit-wonder playlist.

I basically have a playlist for different moods, months (so I can look back on what I was really into in a particular month), a playlist for my friends, basically songs that remind me of them or songs they really enjoy. Besides the ones that were already there (Top 25..etc) thats about it.

Mine are almost all arranged by artist, e.g. "Bjork Mix", "Radiohead Mix", "Elvis Costello Mix", "Peaches Mix", "Talking Heads Mix"... you get the idea. I have all the albums I own by these artists (and my other faves) on my iPod to listen to whenever, but more often than not I just listen to these "mix tape" compilations of my fave songs by them.

I also keep other thematic lists, like "Current Collection" which is a bunch of songs I am into right now, and "Space Mix" because I am currently obsessed with Futurama, this mix features sound clips and songs from the show, as well as songs like "Another Satellite" by XTC and "To the Moon and Back" by Savage Garden which fit in thematically with the show. My only autobiographical playlists are one called "Grade 8 Mix" and "My Love's Mix" which are about a memorable year of my life and songs with my partner, respectively.

I also have "Top 25 Most Played", "Recently Added" and "Needs More Attention" lists, for when I want to go by something other than artist or evocation.

I've been trying to think of some new ideas for playlists to make listening easier, but until then, everytime I add or import more than a few songs I make a playlist that says (for example) "ADDED 06/29/06". They all list in order on itunes/my ipod. I usually only use this on itunes to go back and listen to the stuff I've kind of forgotten about over time.
