Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Hello, i just got my iskin evo3 today. I ordered it from Iskin through Amazon.com on the Thursday before Christmas.

So far i am very happy with it! the VISOR is amazing!

The 2 main problems so far is the dust and lint magnet factor, but nothing a lil air can cant fix. And the main thing is this stupid hold button cover!!! Has any1 figured the Dang thing out!! i cant get the hold button to slide for anything!

Anyway besides that, its a fantastic case! and looks sexy!

Here are some pics...

they arent the greatest, but i did my best

rate from 1 to 10 how uncomfortable it is to use the wheel with the sticky silicone on it?

lildudejds
01-03-2006, 02:36 PM
i think its great:) umm its not sticky at all....the only annoyin thing is the pause/play, menu, and skip buttons are raised...so u feel lil bumps as u scroll...but it doesnt annoy me at all..

i guess ill give it a 2.....1 being the most comfy

How do they know your e-mail? Directly from your Paypal account?

And when do I receive the e-mail from iSkin where I can track my package?

Thanks.

I'd rate it a 3 to 4. It's decent, but it does slow you down a bit. Say for example if you're srolling through your (lengthy) artist list in the music library, it's noticably more finger movement to get from the A's to the Z's than it was with no case. On the other hand, the scrolling was almost *too* quick without the case, so it's hard to say which is more annoying. But overall very good. The VISOR directs your fingers right onto the wheel, and you can find the buttons via the little raised bits, which makes operating in low light or without looking a bit easier.

Cheers,
Scott.

I ordered mine, won't get it to next week I've been told by iSkin... *sigh*... so much for the 24-48 hour shipping...

anyways, I got the black one.

1- is your iPod black?
2- about how much thicker is yours, please, not just "a few cm" because cm are pretty large when you're talking iPod. if you could very, very roughly please measure it for me, whether in metric (cm/mm)or english (in.) I don't care. This would be very helpful. Thanks in advance...

I got a black evo 3 as well, and the hold switch wasn't that difficult to figure out... However, my failed attempts ended up cutting through the scilicone, but it was a tiny cut and is almost impossible to see. Basically, you put your fingernail in the middle of the indent. As in, between the raised part and where the hold switch part ends. It's kinda hard to explain. You put your fingernail in, and slide. It's a satisfying feeling...or maybe I am weird...lol.

For about eight years I have had the bad habit of biting my nails. But since I figured out that I would need nails to use the hold switch, I've stopped biting my nails! They should use habit breaking as a marketing thing.

Cheers! :D

I don't know what to do. I want a slim protector for my ipod that I can still fit in my pocket... I'm starting to have doubts on this, and might be interested in the agent18 case... Does anyone know which is slimmer?

flashkl
01-03-2006, 08:39 PM
I got my friend the Agent 18 case, and it's nice looking and stuff...but it exposes too much around the headphone port and hold switch....has no click wheel protection.....exposes entire bottom, which is good cause you can attach most bottom mounting things like iTrip, bu is really really scratch prone. If you can live with all that, get it. It's really well made and nice, just too exposed. I love my evo 3 :-) .

flashkl
01-03-2006, 08:41 PM
Also, the Agent 18 case is frosted, which I was not expecting. It's nice looking by all means, and works well, but just in case, you know... It's just not completely translucent. And it's definately thinner than evo 3, although only by several millimeters.

hedzup
01-03-2006, 09:21 PM
I am only looking into thickness... the a18 case is also much less costly, so I really think I might just cancel this. Buy here is what I really want.

Can you put it into your pocket, with the iskin eVo3 case on, relatively easy, and not protruding out of your pocket, much like it is with the iPod (30g) without any case on?

^^very important, also, without the clip on

anyone think I would be making a mistake by cancelling my order?

and by the way, thank you very much for your responses so far!

Hedsup, i measured, and my 30 gig ipod with the case on is about.....5/8 inch.

It feels nice in you pocket, atleast its an improvement my old contour showcase 3g which was very bulky

I've been looking into cases, and I keep coming back to this one. But I think the visor looks so stupid...and I'd imagine take away from the overall feel is it absolutely necessary that the visor has to put on?

w/o the visor you wouldn't have anything protecting the screen

In addition to the lack of screen protection, you'd have a "loose" edge all the way around where the visor is supposed to be inserted. The soft part of the case has two lips, one that goes against the iPod's face, then the visor sits on that, then the outer lip on top of the visor (although it's flush with the visor as it also has a lip).

It's hard to describe but they are defintiely meant to be used together. You'd have a loose upper lip if that makes any sense. It would fold over whenever you handle the player. It just isn't advisable IMHO.

If you don't want the visor then why not get a basic skin? I know my local Best Buy (and Future Shop--Canadian chain owned by Best Buy) has some basic black and clear skins for the 5G.

PS I think the visor looks better in person than in pictures.

the glare from the flash and/or other lighting makes the visor look weird in pictures

lildudejds
01-04-2006, 02:34 PM
yeah ...the visor really does look good in person, the pics kinda make it look odd...but i guess its not completely necissary...you COULD not put it in there...but like mutnat said...if u dotn want it then go with a different skin that doesnt have one...like most skins...

The visor is actually pretty cool looking in person... I like it. Although the case definately attracts lint and stuff, you can always just blow it off. This case is worth it for the excellent protection it offers. I though about canceling my order when I bought it, but I didn't, and I am very happy with my decision.

what are the holes in the back for? sorry if this has been asked before.

I'd be worried about dust getting in there and scratching the metal though

but the metal can be repaired with brasso ?

How durable is the belt clip on a scale from 1-10?

The holes in the back are where the posts of the belt clip go through if you use the belt clip. I haven't seen much of anything get in there so far. Because the back of the case includes some small "feet" at all four corners, the back of the case isn't directly sitting on any surface you put the player down on. This should help minimize the problem the holes create.

I've never tried... but the instructions that come with the case have a note that says it's for "casual use only" or something like that (I forget the exact wording), so I'd assume it's not super-strong.

I got mine today!! I really like it too. it is still rather slim. it is the eclipse for my black 30g. You can't see the ipod at all except for the screen, and it fits rather nicely. thanks for all the help I think i've made a good decision in not cancelling my order:D

It says "for causal use only" because they don't want to be held responsible if you drop your ipod and break it. I think it is actually pretty sturdy, but I don't use it. Maybe in the summer I might.

I got the evo 3 in black. Has anyone else had trouble docking? It is ok with the Universal Dock from apple (after removal of the adaptor) but I got an iHome alarm clock, too, and it simply will not fit in there. This is a problem cause I sort of need to wake up at certain times in the morning. Any cases that are ...well, also really amazing but a little thinner?

Has anyone removed the round belt clip attachment disc from inside the iSkin? I have no use for a belt clip and the two studs that stick out are annoying me a little. The disc says "Do Not Remove." The only negative I can see to doing is this is that it leaves two small holes exposed in the case and dust could get inside. I might try to seal up the holes with something.

From the pictures I've seen, just about everyone has removed the belt clip and the disc, despite the "do not remove", myself included. The other side effect is that the skin is "loose" where the disc used to be--it doesn't cling to the iPod there; there is a bit of space/air between that part of the skin and the back of the iPod. But it's fine.

I've got a question for you.
I had a Evo2 for my 4g ipod and whenever I put the case my pocket and took it back out again the silicon caused friction with the inside of my trousers. It was as if it was stook to the inside.
Does this happen with the Evo3?

I believe the do not remove refers to the rubber-ish sticker/covering on that particular piece.

Got mine today, and I have to say I'm not that thrilled. I like the protection, but a couple of things really bother me. First is the covered hold switch. I have to monkey around a lot to get it to actually move the switch underneath, plus you can't see the orange markings, so it's up to remember which way way is on and which is off. After much cursing, I ended up cutting the rubber over the hold switch off. Secondly, it's a pain to get the rubber flange to lay under the VISOR and on top of the iPod surface. As I'm trying to tuck it in, the rubber lip wants to curl against the side of the iPod instead of slipping in between the VISOR and the iPod. It's a hassle to get it on and off. Finally, the black case is an unbelievable dust and dirt magnet! It already had gunk all over the outside by the time I put my iPod inside.

I think I'm going to try the zCover instead.

With the artic case, you can see the hold switch through the case, which is pretty convenient. It takes a bit of practice but it's usable. Regarding installation of the case, yeah the first time was a bit of a #####. The trick is to pull the side of the case outward away from the player a bit. then the two lips will stick striaght out, and you can carefully slide it in so that the bottom goes under the visor and the top over it. After a few tries (took it out to show a friend what his black 5G would look like in it, took it out to cut off the dock adapter cover, etc.) it's pretty quick and easy now. I can get the whole thing on in about 30 seconds now from start to finish.

I ordered mine on Jan 1 and received it yesterday Jan 11. The problem is that I now want to return it and trying to get iSkin to acknowledge my request with an RMA has been difficult.

I'm returning the case not because it is defective - it is simply because my use of the iPod requires me to constantly take it in and out of the case (I have DLO TransPod for the car and an MM50 at home). Not easy to do on eVo3.

By the way anybody have any recommendations for a more suitable case?

the lil groups of holes in the back is for air to get in so the ipod does nto overheat...the 2 larger ones are for the beltclip, which i took off and will never use.

i took it out...and the "do not remove" is NOT for the whole disk, its for the sticky layer of gel stuff thats on it....so just so you know...you can take it out.....otherwise the lil studs would get quite annoying.
