btw, when did apple move from leather case to the nylon cases (case that comes with pod)? or am i totally off and they never offered a leather case with the pod...

Yep, the Apple cases have always been made out of that same material.

As for the gen. 3 iPod cases, the only ones that are currently shipping at the $40 bags from www.sfbags.com
