library reconstruction after hdd crash

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend how to proceed restoring the iTunes library after HDD crash.

- I only have a partial back up of my files (so I will have to re-rip alot of CDs - oh well).
- I have a backup of my iTunes library files and I would like to preserve my playcounts, song ratings.
- I would like to get up an running with a partial library as soon as possible - i.e. I don't want to wait until I have re-ripped and perfectly named all the lost files.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Peargirl,
My brother had the same thing. Total HDD physical crash. Still has his library on the iPOD, but when he connects it to his MAC, the songs are "grayed" out in iTunes. If you find out how to restore please let me know, he has a 20+ Gig collection that he doesn't want to have to rerip.
