Hi,

I have 2 PCs, one is working as a gateway, file server and such and has no sound output. My main PC is for playing games and occasionnally playing music, etc.

I would like to :
- have my music files installed on my secondary (file server) pc
- plug my iPod to my secondary server to sync (without taking cpu and disk usage while I play on the main computer for example)
- still be able to browse, clean, create playlists, etc. from my main computer (where I have sound card)

What I have done right now :
- create a windows shared directory on pc2 that pc1 can see access and modify
- install iTunes on both pcs
- setup iTunes library on both pcs to be on the shared disk

But :
- after I import/copy all my songs thru the first iTunes, the second iTunes wouldn't see them until I imported the iTunes library directory (where all files were copied). Like if iTunes maintained a file or something as a cache of what is in the library, and that this file is not in the library directory

Questions :
- is there a better, safer way ?
- what will happen when i'll start buying songs (most probably from my main PC, that I will want to see and sync in my iPod from my second one)

Note : I could buy a second sound card, speaker set etc. yet it wouldn't offer me as much flexibility as sharing the same library between 2 computers, and it would take up too much space on my desk :(

thanks in advance for your help.
Ha.

I have the same setup u do, except I don't have to use iTunes to play music, I just use my favorite music player, Winamp, and just grab the MP3s across the LAN.

Hmm, that's an option. Do you buy music ? I use iTunes to do so, and I listen to samples before I buy most of the time, so using iTunes on my main pc would still be very interesting for me.
