Hi!
Any advice, solutions, ideas, would be greatly appreciated. This is long... please bear with me
I purchased a 3rd gen 20 gig IPOD monochrome from Best Buy for Christmas. This was not a brand new ipod, but one that was in need of service that employees could purchase for an inexpenisve price. I did so, and immediately sent it to APPLE, who charged me, but replaced my ipod with a refurbished U2 special edition 20g monochrome ipod (that has a white casing on it instead) I proceeded to give it to my father for Christmas.
When the ipod first arrived, it said it was configured for MAC, so I went through the intructions to config it to Windows on my comp (an E-machine, Windows XP home w/ sp 2). This worked, and the ipod seemed fine. I didn't proceed to put music on it, as I knew Dad would want to configure it to his comp.(an older, Dell Windows XP pro w/ sp2)
Christmas Day ,we proceeded to set up the ipod to Dad's comp.
He has many accounts on his comp, and we wish to have the ipod register with a NON-admin account. My sister has managed to successfully config a 20g mono ipod to her account (on Dad's comp)
Upon our first configuration, the iPod was not recognized on Dad's comp. We had the folder icon appear, so we attempted to restore it with the newest IPOD updater on my comp. This worked fine, and we tested the ipod and were able to load songs onto it on my comp. (We cannot keep it attached to my comp, as I am in college, and this would be a giant hassle, and quite unreasonable)
We deleted the songs, and proceeded to try and connect it to Dad's comp again. When the ipod was connected to the comp, it displayed the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" icon, and allowed us to name the ipod on Dad's comp, (Chris's IPOD) but Itunes was UNABLE to transfer any music onto the ipod, and displayed the folder icon again.
Dad proceeded to restore it again on his comp, and now all we can get CONSTANTLY when we click the restore button is "Firmware Update Failure: Disk Write Error" It will no longer register at all on Itunes.
The ipod will not restore at all, in disk mode or otherwise. If disconnected from the comp, it repeatedly shows the "folder error"icon.
We've tried quite a bit, followed all instructions, and have the latest software of everything. Our operating system on Dad's comp greatly excels the system requirements of the iPod.
What can we do to make it work on Dad's computer? I'd rather not send it out again to Apple, as it was pretty expensive the first time, and I feel bad that my xmas preset to dad is failing so miserably.
Please feel free to im, email, or post me ideas. I'd greatly appreciate any knowledge
