So tomorrow's my birthday and today I received an iPod 20 GB for Windows, brand new. But with complete assurance it was no problem to restore it to use on a Mac.
I downloaded the iPod updated 1.3. I am running OS 9.2.2 on my Mac. I installed the Updater. It asked me to restart the computer. When the computer restarted, it asked me to plug in my iPod.
I plugged in the iPod and it only gave me one choice - RESTORE (the one I wanted). Update was greyed out.
The mac recognized the iPod, and it began the restore process without a problem. It succeeded. Then, it asked me to unplug the iPod, then replug the iPod in order to continue the update process. THIS IS WHERE THE FUN STOPPED. I unplugged it. Replugged it. The mac said, "please plug the ipod in." The screen of the iPod had a graphic of a firewire plug (asking me to plug it in.)
And that's where I'm at. I've unplugged, replugged, restarted the computer, checked all my connections (which obviously were working fine - or I wouldn't have succeeded in the first half of the restore process.) I tried starting the whole thing from step 1 - but it's impossible, since now my mac never recognizes that the iPod is plugged in. And the iPod is now an expensive paperweight. It does nothing at all, except show the graphic for "plug me in."
PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you.
